The Unofficial Report for March 6 2010
What a great day! We had about 20 midship persons on board. While normally no one wants to work in the engine rooms I had about 10 cleaning and polishing and doing a top notch job. The engine rooms are the cleanest in the fleet. What a great bunch of young people. They were cheerful, intelligent and diligent workers.
The engine rooms were crowded so I took groups of four or so on tours of the boat. It was fun for me and I think they enjoyed it. Those that went up in the conning tower and looked through the scopes came down beaming. Gil must have had the scope focused on Hooters.
God only knows what the future of the Navy holds with the potential officers being considerate, personable and willing to do actual work. Each of the people onboard today gets my vote to make Admiral. All the volunteers hope they will return soon.
Some pictures will find their way to the site.
Yes a goodly group of regular volunteers were aboard and laughing their parts off at Big Al’s antics. Watching the great man polish a restored gage with his fruit of the looms almost caused the demise of the GE. I think I broke a rib laughing. Who but Al would think to use the lower skivvies instead of the top Ts. Although they were quite large.
Chippin Chuck must have been in all his glory telling the mids of his exploits on the Torsk. It was a great day to be a former crew member and share with the cadets.
Dave provided the entertainment at the social hour demonstrating the correct way to apply paint remover. Cathy, Gil, Big Al and the two geezers watched in all, short for awful. Frank and the real crew person stayed in the crew’s mess entertaining and filling the visitors with No S stories.
Cathy provided a cracker lunch and we dreamed of a road kill stew. John please run over something this week and feed us.
It was a great day! One of the best! |

Wow Tim, I'm so pleased to see that you have successfully recovered from your crying jag! Miracles do happen...
Positive reports are so much more pleasant to ponder over.

Whatever possessed Big Al to use his FTL's to polish a plastic gauge face is beyond me. But it sure gave us some entertainment this morning!
