Summary of shipboard & offsite work for the week ending February 5, 2012

Saturday, February 4

Torsk Crew on board: Chief Bill, Chief Mike, Dave, Ski, Nat, Tracey, Tim, Scott, Michelle, Gil, Bruce, Mike H, Jaime and four Sea Cadets (two officers, two Cadets)

Chief Bill and Chief Mike began troubleshooting the 1MC. Many of the problems they found were self-induced, but after correcting them, they still could not get the 1MC working. They did thrill the crew by sounding the ship’s klaxons and we managed to get a shrill sound from the speakers throughout the boat every time they keyed the 1MC. They tested the output of the signal generator and got nothing when they triggered the collision or general alarms. Looks like they have several troubleshooting sessions to go before they make noise. New volunteer Mike Heuss assisted with the 1MC work.

Dave continued work on TVA inventory, and met with Meg Heisse who has historical photographs for us to review.

Michelle completed repainting the Playboy Bunny on Tube 1, and completed and installed the Maneuvering Room Compartment Bill Holder.

Dave, Scott and Ski had a meeting about IC projects. Ski took charge of the Growler part of the JA/1JV system. Scott and Ski repaired the Gears on the magneto of the growler in Maneuvering

Nat removed paint from large electrical box across from stern plane wheel. Sanded and prepped it for painting. Also masked off, sanded, prepped and attempted to paint an electrical switchboard that currently controls the power output to the aux gyro and gyro repeater in control.

Tim polished brass in the Engine rooms.

Tracey assisted with inventory, and then directed the efforts of the Sea Cadets. They polished brass in the FTR and cleaned/vacuumed throughout the boat.

Bruce and Gil worked in archives and did housekeeping.

Offsite during the Week:

Gil worked on TVA Admin duties

Onsite Volunteer Hours – 104
Offsite Volunteer Hours - 3
Total Week Hours – 107

2012 Year to Date Volunteer Hours – 493

That’s it for the week.
